What is Functional Family Therapy?
Functional Family Therapy is built on an integrated theoretical foundation and systematic research evidence that demonstrates its efficacy and effectiveness for reducing serious behaviors in youth ages 10 to 18 years old. As a true family therapy, FFT targets the family relational system as the entry point and primary target for systematic and individualized treatment. The FFT clinical model is appealing because of its clear identification of specific phases. Each phase includes specific goals, assessments, specific techniques of intervention, and therapist skills necessary for success designed to guide the therapist in working with the family to meet the short term and long term treatment goals.
- Reduce and eliminate problem behaviors and related family relational patterns through individualized behavior change interventions. This phase integrates cognitive and attributional components with systematic skill-building in family communication, parenting, problem-solving, and conflict management.
- Generalize positive changes across situations by strengthening the family’s ability to use community resources effectively and engage in relapse prevention strategies.
- Provide 24/7 on-call clinical support to ensure around-the-clock availability of services.
- Deliver intensive services, with intervention sessions conducted multiple times per week.
- Utilize Master’s- and Bachelor’s-level clinical professionals as FFT therapists.
- Develop interventions using an analytical model that identifies and targets key “fit factors” driving clinical problems.
- Coverage Areas: Lafayette, St. Landry, Acadia, Vermilion, Iberia, and St. Martin Parishes.
